Black rat snake, Pantherophis alleghaniensis
Black rat snakes (an Eastern rat snake) are long and slender snakes found throughout much of the Eastern United States. They’re amazingly active and adaptable, capable of climbing and swimming with ease in search of prey. In captivity, they make inquisitive and lively display animals, generally larger and more spirited than corn snakes, but with similar care and keeping.
